How many flights can you take in 5 days? DFW-LHR-DOH-AUH-JFK-MEM on BA J, QR J, EY F (Apartments), AA F

Another month, another business trip to Europe. To be fair, this year has brought me only to London – next month I will be heading to Madrid as well, but so far it has been only UK. I have had the chance to hangout in Richmond with coworkers, explore a little more the Paddington area, buy some treats at Laduree near Regent St – but overall, I have tried to limit my time away from home and the family.

This time, though, I made a little exception; in fact, right before AA devalued its mileage program I tried to see how  I could best use part of my miles. I saw a trip coming in May, and coincidentally Etihad Apartments were available for redemption from Abu Dhabi to New York. So I said, “why not”? A quick call to AA’s Australian call center, and I was booked. My meetings in London would end on a Thursday, and then I would fly to Doha, Qatar where I would spend a day, before flying to AUH to connect to Etihad. Long way around, but I am not complaining here. The whole itinerary looks as follows:

  • The Centurion Lounge @ DFW
  • British Airways Club World DFW-LHR (773)
  • 1 night at the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel
  • Dining in London – two favorites from trips past
  • Qatar Airways Business Class LHR-DOH (333)
  • 1 day in Doha
  • Qatar Airways’ Al Safwa Lounge in DOH
  • Qatar Airways First Class DOH-AUH (320)
  • Etihad Premium Lounge in AUH
  • Etihad First Class AUH-JFK (388)

When I booked, I was really hoping that the new Etihad First Class lounge would open in time for my trip, but unfortunately this didn’t happen – this lounge has become more of a joke than Berlin’s Brandeburg Airport – but overall my trip looked pretty solid, and so I was very happy with it.

Ready to follow my adventures? Then, let’s go!
