A Southern Caribbean Honyemoon

If you had asked me just one year ago if I would have ever gone on a cruise, I would probably have answered: “On my dead body”. That’s because, let’s face it, I like adventure and exploration more than all-inclusive type of deals. As you might recall, DR Congo for gorillas, Greenland for glaciers, and Guyana for the Kaieteur Falls are all on my shortlist of to-do things.

Yet, I have a pregnant wife now, and – having to take that into consideration – we decided to opt for something more relaxing than my usual gig. I will write my overall considerations about the cruise itself at the end of this report. For now, I will tell you about the itinerary.

We flew from New York City to San Juan, PR on American Airlines business class. After spending two nights there, we would board the Carnival Liberty for a seven night cruise in the Southern Caribbean: US Virgin Islands, Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts, St Maarten, and then back to San Juan for a final night of relaxation before coming back to the US. Overall, this trip pushed my tally of countries and territories visited to 71 and Thuy’s to 21.

I hope you are ready to follow us on this new adventure. As always, your comments and feedback are more than welcome!
